OMO is now settling in to it's home at the Astoria nicely and progressively getting busier and busier week by week. Fridays is pop and chart night with superstar drag DJs Lady Lloyd, Dusty O and Tasty Tim while Saturdays are jam packed with commercial house and club music from maestros Kris di Angelis and Stevie B. We popped in a couple of weeks ago for a performance from American R&B singer-songwriter Kelly Rowland, one of the founding members of the best-selling female group of all time Destiny's Child, and were blown away by her power vocals and stage presence. As well as banging out the big hits 'Work', 'Still In Love With My Ex', 'Dilemma' and 'Like This', she also had a sassy wit and sparkling banter with the audience. At one stage, because all the production team had gone front of house to watch the show, she was left stranded with no mic stand so turned to the wings saying, "hello, hello, is anyone there?" Then there was the sound reproduction which on one track didn't meet her expectations so she got it turned off and sang an amazing a capella version like only a pro could do. Teething troubles aside, Kelly Rowland was stupendous and provided a huge feather in the OMO cap, and with more apparently to come I would be surprised to see an OMO creation at Ascot next year! |
